Move It, Lose It,
Prevent It- Type 2 Diabetes

Activities include:

Posting billboards across Kentucky with the message: “Could you have “Sugar” Diabetes?” with a circulation of 29,179,500

Collaborated with Appalshop and WMMT Mountain Radio to raise awareness about diabetes to the high-risk Appalachia population

Collaboration with the University of KY Cooperative Extension Services and CHA in hosting an expo with 150 attendees at UK Student Center to honor Jim McCord, a Kentuckian who was running across America to raise awareness about diabetes.

Conducted a statewide media campaign in partnership with KDPCP, NDEP, & KY Broadcaster Assoc. with 8 months of PSA’s including radio & TV; the message was “Be smart about your heart.” For the remaining months, the message was “You don’t have to knock yourself out, to prevent type 2 diabetes.” Approximately 25,000 TV spots with these messages have been aired at an estimate value of $300,000.

Originated and maintains KDN website. The website includes links to all of the tools and resources developed by KDN workgroups and link to KDN members, partners, and sponsors.

Distributed to physician offices, pharmacies, local health departments, schools, and multiple other sites 10,000 window clings & 500 exercise bands with message “Move it, Lose it, Prevent it! Prevent type 2 diabetes!”

Developed, printed, and distributed with the assistance of KDN membership 5,000 bookmarks with the message “Move it, Lose it, Prevent it! Prevent type 2 diabetes!”

Developed and distributed with assistance of KDN membership annual Diabetes Alert Day –“letter to the editor.”

Purchased awareness bracelet with the message “Move it, Lose it, Prevent it! Prevent type 2 diabetes!”

Contracted with Lexington Herald Leader to place ad the message “Move it, Lose it, Prevent it! Prevent type 2 diabetes!” in health and wellness magazine Bluegrass Balance.
