Sharing LIGHT and HOPE for People with or at Risk for Diabetes
High Risk Populations:
Primary purpose: to promote cultural competency and diversity efforts among KDN members and their respective networks
Activities include:
Coordinates/provides 20-minute minimum cultural presentations at most quarterly meetings Presentations topics have included African-American, Appalachia, Generational, Hispanic/Latino, and children with diabetes.
Articles titled “Be Smart About Your Heart” and “Control Your Diabetes For Life” was published in African American newsletters with 26,000 in circulation.
This committee also serves as a resource to other committees/workgroups for culturally sensitive materials and guidance
Developed, gained approval, and funding for an annual CDE Scholarship sponsored by KDN and the High Risk Committee. This scholarship is open to individuals work in KDN targeted high risk populations or is a member of one of the high risk populations
